The Magnettes

Swedish trio The Magnettes have unleashed their deviant track “Renegades”, taking the industry by storm with their brash and unrelenting ‘fuck-pop’ genre.

Taken from their brand debut album, Ugly Youth, “Renegades” is about getting bruised up on one of those Northern summer nights when the sun never goes down. Vittula, mentioned in the second verse, is the traditional name of a part of Pajala where people had lots of babies. The literal translation of it is The Pussy Moor’.”

Evidently tackling the taboo (one that should long be extinct), post-brexit Trump meets Boris dystopia as “Renegades” taps into the misadventures of adolescence. Their raw vocals and moving lyrics are guaranteed to make you wobble at the knees and upper lip, as this trio empathise with the outsider. That being said, the wobbles may be a result of the rocking bass lines that marinate the track.

Championing class electro-pop, The Magnettes are up there competing with palatial pop royalty, not only in sound but also nonconformity. It’s an unsurprising fact, given Scandinavia’s prized pop past, breeding the likes of Little Dragon, Sigrid, Mø, Robyn and Icona Pop to name but a few.

They say three’s a crowd, but we have turned a blind eye and reserved acres of space in our playlists for The Magnettes next storming album. Tune in above and check out cracking single “BONES” below.
