The moment you find yourself sitting bolt upright in a cold sweat, panting like you’ve just run a marathon, whilst attempting to figure out where exactly you are. It’s never a joyful experience, however it’s the precise situation I found myself in a number of nights ago whilst trying to make sense of a particularly intense nightmare.
The setting of the nightmare in itself wasn’t anything exceptional; an ominous looking cave, a dark pit filled with stalagmites, some casual flames were even thrown in for good measure. What made this particular illusion of the mind unique however, was the point at which a gang of terrifyingly unidentifiable people strode towards me with purpose. As the group neared, I noticed one individual had metal spikes over a foot long protruding from his gimp-esque mask, as the other members chose to pause behind him, cross-armed and full of menace. It’s a sense of terror comparable to none.
It was only at the point of waking I realised ‘Mr Spikey’ as he came to be known by me, was in fact holding a set of drumsticks – that’s when it clicked. Somehow Slipknot had managed to infiltrate my dreams and subject me to a torturous night of havoc and terror. If you’re reading Slipknot, I’m not best pleased.
What it did do however, was make me realise how perfect the original terror-inducing masked men would be if plonked on the set of a horror movie. No need for a costume department, they’ll provide their own costumes and you can knock a few grand off the budget already!
But seriously, why hasn’t this been done? It would be a cross between ‘The Hills Have Eyes‘, ‘Wrong Turn‘ and ‘House Of Wax‘. Frontman Corey Taylor would make the perfect panic-inducing sociopath, with a brain hardwired to keep one step ahead of the poor dumb blonde that will inevitably be the last to die.
Based on numbers alone, they would out-man any of the character-stereotypes who make a bid for freedom. There would be a variety of Jigsaw-esque traps in a series of overly-generic woodland settings. It could be a decidedly gruesome affair, and whilst we’re at it, why don’t we throw them a soundtrack for good measure? It’s going to be great… whenever it’s released.
