Today’s Fresh New Music comes from a band whose sound can only be described as a mixture of haunting folk with the addition of a sultry string section. Izzy’s Daughter is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Michelle Nichols who is leading an ever expanding line up on their musical mission.
‘Autumn Flowers’ was the debut album, released back in April 2013 as a solo artist before the additional members came on board. Receiving great feedback from the start, the only way was up for this band. Currently as a four piece, the sound that resonates is one that has the ability to send shivers down your spine. Not only is it the hypnotic appearance of lead singer Michelle (who can only be described as a gothic goddess perched behind the piano) but the drifting melodies that leave you wanting more. There is a distinctly traditional edge to their music that has definite Celtic roots, cleverly combined with a rather current folky undertone, especially with their song ‘My King’. Michelle’s voice has a haunting quality full of emotion and it is easy to draw parallels with the likes of Lana Del Ray and Marina and the Diamonds.
The band will be touring around a number of festivals this summer and as well as this you can catch them live at Hootananny in Brixton on the 29th January!
Take a look at their latest video offering ‘My King’, recorded live at the 1901 Arts Club right here in little old London Town:
