So I’ve been meaning to get this off my chest for a while…
Whilst at the Reading Festival I saw a certain band/comedy group AKA The Midnight Beast. I have to emphasise that I have absolutely NOTHING against the band in principle, its just the way they and so many like them plus their respective record labels act like a monkey thats never going to see a banana again when it comes to £££.
The Midnight beast were a great band when I first heard about them virally over the internet. Their first Parody “tik tok” was a roaring success notching up over 8 million views on youtube. I and everyone I know found it hysterical and a great alternative to the original because of two things, its SLICK and its WITTY. These two things have become increasingly rare as more and more videos have been churned out to please the ever demanding audience that is the Great British public.
The bands latest songs including “Friends For Never” and “Booty Call” have (in my opinion) been an utter flop. Yes they have obtained high numbers on the hit counter from avid teen followers but its all haste and no substance. The songs no longer make me laugh from the comic homemade videos nor cry as a result of cramps that result from the slick innuendos and trashy references. Commercialization is the beginning of the end.
The guys are currently on a UK tour and have just released the single “Booty Call”. I apologise for ranting if it is only me who feels this is the case but every time I listen back to the first few singles and then accidently stumble upon a current one it makes me wonder… is todays society all about the money and the fame while it lasts rather than producing entertaining, time defying music? Im sad to say that I think the answer is yes…
