For real… Have you heard their new single “Outro” yet? Nooo? I think it’s time to press play… However, before you do, have a read to this lil e-interview we did with the Swedish duo. They’re cool, talented, honest and make banging tunes… What more do we need, right?
What’s the most common first question that people ask in interviews?
We haven’t done enough interviews to form a pattern but people often asks us about our relationship with David (Summer Heart). And we won’t mind because he’s pretty awesome!
Hah, that question will pop up soon enough actually… However, what would you like the first question to be?/ What would you like the very first thing to be for people to get to know about you?
Good question! We listen a lot to a Swedish interview podcast called Värvet, and the guy who has it always ask “Would you like to recommend anything?”. We would want to recommend people to go vegan.
Why did you both choose music as your paths and together formed Heart/Dancer?
L: It’s strange, because when I think about why I want to make music I don’t really know. Why create SOUNDS, it seems like a pretty boring thing to do, haha. But somehow I started to dream about it when I was little, and since my early teens it’s been my faith and escape. I know I’ll always have music as my friend, who ever I might be. It sounds a bit trippy, but it’s nice to have something constant. And to have a medium for getting out messages.
J :I hurt my ears at a concert when I was around 17. For a long time after that I often had to choose between working on music or stuff like partying and hanging out with friends. I was often too tired in my ears to do both. More often then not I chose music, so it became pretty clear to myself that I really wanted it.
Both: Music has been in both our lives since we were very little. The reason we started doing music together is probably because we have the same will to do music. Also the same will to not do. We work really well together since we are both writing, producing and singing, but have different qualities that compliment each other. It’s really nice!
What’s different about Heart/Dancer apart from the fact you’re both vegan?
Hopefully we are different because we are just being ourselves, like it makes everybody else different. The nice thing about society is that everyone is unique, so there are people who can do the things you can’t, and vice versa.
What’s the most positive experience in your career so far and why?
That has to be the fact that we are able to travel around and meet a lot of amazing people because of our music.
What’s the most embarrassing experience in your career so far and why?
Both: Without doubt: when Linnéa accidentally double stepped on her vocal effects pedal and got the factory preset ”J.Lo”. You can just imagine those wonderful auto-tune harmonies… Both the most embarrassing and most glorious experience at the same time.
And here comes the most asked question… You got signed to the label set up by Summer Heart. How do you know him?
We know him through mututal friends basically. He and Fredrik at Sommarhjärta got a hold of a couple of our songs before we decided what to do with them, and asked if we wanted to talk about signing. It feels really good having them by our side. It was an incredible luck and timing, it’s almost creepy.
What would you like to achieve with your new single “Outro”?
We hope it makes someone take that first step into something new, because that’s what the song is all about. And say goodbye to something that’s been in your life for too long. The message is actually very similar to Lykke Li’s ”I’m Good, I’m Gone”, but maybe a bit less cheeky. Haven’t really reflected on that before, but it’s the same thing – to know that one day you’re gonna be THERE. So if we all could just do that, that would be nice.
When can we see you live next here in London?
We’re gonna play there twice in July, 5th at The Lock Tavern and 10th at Kopparberg Urban Forest. And hopefully more in the future! When we played in London last time, in May, it was like summer there. So nice! We’re not really used to that in Sweden, not any month of the year actually.
And what is next for Heart/Dancer before the end of 2015?
Next up is doing more shows, releasing more music and having good times. We are also really looking forward to enjoying the summer. We were underground in a studio for the bigger part of last summer, so now it’s time for revenge! We would also like to get hold of some new shoes. Right now we’re forced to use winter boots and runner shoes from 2007 in lack of better alternatives.
