… with their brilliant new single! The song is called “The Echo” (now you understand the pun in the title, right?) and I’ve been listening to it non-stop! I have also managed to grab Mo and Silty for a little e-gathering and a e-chat…
Hi guys, thanks so much for doing this… Let’s begin then, shall we… What did you do before you became The Actions?
We used to play together in previous bands and individually with different acts.
Aha, so you’ve both been around gaining experience… And how did you two meet and decide to make music together?
We’ve been making music together since we were kids. We lived about a hundred yards away from one another. Mo: “Everything started when my sister played me a demo by Silty and her sister. It was a fantastic a cappella tape and I asked Silty to join my band at the time.” Silty: “I remember first time me and Mo played live together. It was at our hometown’s battle of bands. I wrote lyrics and melody on an instrumental track in a real hurry, but it was a great challenge. We won 1st prize by the way.”

Oh wow, well done you! If you can write a track in a hurry that wins 1stprize in a competition, what does your proper writing process actually look like?
Well, there is no particular process. A new song always comes out of a different source. Sometimes it starts from a guitar riff, a bass line, a lyric or a vocal melody…
And which one of you does what during that process?
It’s very hard to tell which one of us does what, as we’re both music producers, composers and songwriters. Mo: “Some of my best guitar riffs are written by Silty.”
Oh wow, you two really compliment each other… Apart frome ach other, where do you get your influences from and why?
Tough to mention them all… Let’s say The Doors, Cure, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Joy Division, Bristol’s Trip Hop, Nine Inch Nails, Ennio Morricone, Jeff Buckley etc…
What does your daily routine look like?
Well, we couldn’t think of any musician who has a daily routine.
Haha, ok then… So can you tell us one unusual thing about each other that not many people know about?
We’re both French movies lovers.
Speaking of other countries, how would you describe the musical differences between the Italian music scene and the UK one?
Well, they’re both varied and full of talented acts at the “under-the-radar” level. The main difference lies in what relative industries are more focused on. Italian record companies tend to produce stuff in Italian language mainly. Even though we think that some small Italian labels are producing more international stuff lately. We’ve always written our songs in English so we feel very comfortable here in the UK. We’ve grown up listening to British and US rock bands.
Yes and you’ve played with some of them, for example you’ve supported Green Day and Garbage… Would you consider that to be the most memorable moment in your musical career so far or is there something else you consider the most positive experience so far?
Well, opening for such big acts has certainly been a great experience for us and surely we consider it one of the highlights of our career so far. Being played by Tom Robinson on BBC Radio has been great as well… Even if playing in stadiums in front of large audiences is something remarkable, we strongly believe that every gig is a worthwhile experience. It’s definitely a challenge for every band, especially when you play your new set of songs in front of smaller audience and see clearly how they react.
Sounds bloody difficult if you ask me… What has been the most difficult experience in your music career and why?
Establishing yourself in a particular music scene is quite tough, so we would describe any independent musician’s life as a difficult experience in general.
What advice would you give to young musicians starting out?
To remain focused on what made them decide to start this career.
What’s next in store for The Actions?
