It was in a recent Esquire article that journalist Matt Miller noted, “They’re The Chainsmokers, and they’re doing for EDM what Nickelback did to post-grunge arena rock: becoming immensely popular by using the worst cliches the genre has to offer, and then taking it down to the river and putting it out of its misery. ” Lovely stuff.
Now, it’s clear that Matt Miller’s somehow been rubbed up the wrong way by the shiny American EDM duo (our bets are on the fact he’s secretly a diehard Nickelback fan and a lifetime of oppression is killing him), but the fact that both The Chainsmokers AND Nickelback responded made this ongoing debate all the more hilarious.
.@TheChainsmokers you may find this hard to believe, but we’ve been called way worse. It’s only music guys, keep up the great work. #Truth pic.twitter.com/HnTpkELZha

Either way, we ask you to reserve judgement and take a listen to “Paris“, the latest offering from the duo, comprised of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall. In all honesty, we reckon it falls into the category of pop as opposed to EDM – but hey, we’re just a music blog, what the hell do we know?!
Containing semi-naked models (which doesn’t even factor into our judgement, we just thought you’d like to know), heavy synths and hook filled choruses aplenty, “Paris” is the perfect crossover track, be it for the gym or a road trip. It’s infectious to the extreme – something that deserves credit in itself. And despite missing the category of ‘groundbreaking new music’ (take one look at the current charts and you’ll realise that those three words are somewhat of an endangered species), The Chainsmokers continue to offer up catchy AF tunes, come rain or shine.
Needless to say, Miller probably won’t be the first in line for their upcoming show on Sunday 19th at London’s Roundhouse. So before you take him at his word and dismiss them altogether, give “Paris” a good old listen below.
