Newton Faulkner is back – and we don’t just mean a ‘slowly edging into your peripheral vision’ sort of back, we mean ‘storming the airwaves with creative folk infused greatness’ back.

The “Dream Catch Me” singer can be seen hacking away at his signature dreadlocks like a severely pissed off hairdresser in the accompanying video to “Get Free” (a cover of the original Major Lazer track), with a minimalist treatment that lets the music do the talking.

As an artist who has steadily built a reputation for creative pop/folk tunes, appealing to a mainstream audience whilst still capturing the imaginations of the fringes, Faulkner has been lurking in the shadows whilst steadily churning out the tunes over the past few years.

Since the release of Studio Zoo back in 2013, fans have been able to catch him on tour nationwide, before he knuckled down to record this fifth studio album. “Get Free” mixes acoustic guitars with electronic synths, in a record that’s epicly reminiscent of a Gotye / Kimbra creation. The track builds steadily into an exuberant chorus, with the addition of string sections and brilliantly arranged melodies.

“Get Free” is the debut single off his upcoming fifth studio album Human Love which is set for release on 20 November. Both are set to make their marks on the UK single and album charts, and that’s exactly why it’s One Stop Record Shop’s video of the week. Watch it below in all its glory!
