Rebeka are like Roisin Murphy (I love her), Faithless (I love them), The Knife (I love them), The Guillemots (I love them) and… Everything But The Girl (yep you guessed right, I love them too!). For some reason I was told that I shouldn’t compare them to Kosheen… However, I was never the kid who’d listen to grown-ups telling me what NOT to do, and nothing’s changed in that department (ok fine, I’ve gained a few pounds, got less hair on my head, enriched my face with more wrinkles and my toys got significantly more expensive). So therefore here I am saying it on repeat: Apart from all the cool acts I’ve mentioned above, Rebeka also sound a bit like Kosheen!
And what’s wrong with that? Rebeka are a sensational twenty first century music act and that fact won’t change depending on the act you choose to super-glue their name to… It doesn’t really matter now, does it? I saw them live in London when they were touring the UK for the first time ever and my goodness, I’m STILL under the influence of the energy, euphoria and incredible performance!
So let’s get straight to the point… WHO are Rebeka? Well, all we know is that they’re big in their homeland (google which homeland that might be ‘cos England ain’t it), and are in the process of breaking the UK. I hope my little blabber over here will help them at least 1% more to get there because Bart and Ivy deserve it for sure! Why? I can’t explain it with words… Could be partially because Rebeka are THAT unique… It could also be because I’m going through my second bottle of wine (it is Friday evening after all), or simply because I want you to experience their energy for yourselves…
I’ve got my e-hands on their latest new video for their uber-cool single “Breath”, and although it doesn’t look like an actual video, but more like a live footage of their show, it serves my purpose perfectly to prove my point… That purpose my children is the fact that Rebeka are undeniably brilliant live! Everything works. It just does! How? I don’t know. Why? Not sure I even care, and neither should you… Just watch it and see what I mean… Two people making thousands of people jumping uncontrollably to their tunes, two people (very young if I may add) producing, arranging, playing various instruments, tweaking some music-gear-related knobs on stage AND performing (whilst being super entertaining) at the same time! And that cannot be easy, right? I mean imagine paying to go watch two people typing on a type-writer… Doesn’t sound very appealing now, does it… Well, that was the impression I had BEFORE I saw them in action… Now I’m fully and utterly Rebeka-fied… Wanna know why?
