We’re all for new and emerging talent here at One Stop Record Shop, which is precisely why we’ve developed 5 in five – a quick fire concept that give you the low-down on new artists at record breaking speeds. We caught up with emerging alt-pop band VIØLETS to discover the ins and outs of their musical career thus far…

For those who haven’t heard your latest track “Falling In Time”, how would you describe it?

This track is about a place where you can be whoever you want to be; a place full of dreamers and their dreams. It’s about the feeling of living in the moment – we wanted to capture that energy and the freedom that we felt when we wrote it. It was really natural writing it – it came about from smaller ideas that grew over time into something we were really proud of. It marked a changed in how we went about writing songs and has changed the way we’ve gone about it ever since.

Most embarrassing onstage moment? (it’s fine, we’re all friends here)

During one of our shows last year, we were working with a sound engineer that was borderline paralytic and ended up queuing a Bob Dylan track over our last song accidentally. Was a complete nightmare!

We love new music, what three emerging acts would you recommend to look out for at the moment and why?

We’re hearing so much good, inspiring music at the moment. Seeing Strong Asian Mothers at The Great Escape this year really blew our minds, they’ve got an amazing live show and a great energy. We were also so lucky to support our friends, White Kite at their recent show – we’ve known them for a little bit now and their releases just keep getting better. Finally Kllo – they are an amazing electronic duo that have been on our radar for a while. They just released a new album which is beautiful!

Your record player is stuck on repeat and you can only listen to one song for the rest of time; what track would you chose?

It would be impossible to all agree on this so we’ve had to split it up.
Aaron: Across The Universe – The Beatles
Pippa: Ember – Dawn Wall
Rob: NYC – Interpol

We have a tradition of asking artists which 3 items sum them up (they can be as weird and wonderful as you want); what would your 3 items be and why?

Firstly tea, we drink loads all day, every rehearsal – it keeps us going. Secondly, our multicoloured pack of pens. We write our music with them, draw all our weird pictures with them, they go everywhere with us and Pippa’s had the same pack since we started writing music together. And finally daisies – we rehearse and write in our own space, ‘The Daisy’, every week and it’s just grown into a symbol for us to be creative and make music.’
