Caviare Days is the highly anticipated self-titled album from Swedish sisters Lina and Maja Westin and what it manages to achieve is quite unique. On first listen, you might be surprised to hear that it wasn’t recorded in the midst of a late 60s psychedelic studio session but in the present day. That is what all of us over here at the OSRS love about the album, it manages to embrace that psychedelic sound of the 60s and 70s but still keeps it fresh and relevant by combining it with some sharper guitar riffs thrown into the mix. No surprises then when you discover that the album was in fact mastered over at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

Caviare Days manages to embrace the quirky psychedelic pop qualities of the 60s/70s without creating an entire album based on the current trend of revivals. The album opens up with The Awakening, a track that pulls you along on a melodic bed of folky pop/rock psychedelia that leaves you reminiscing about bands such as The Pierces whilst having a slightly darker undertone. Fresh Tomatoes is another stand out track with an upbeat melody that makes you feel like a child going on an adventure. You can hear definite hints of The Bangles throughout this album and it’s carefree tracks such as this that allow you to simply sit there with a smile on your face.

At times we have to admit that a few tracks seem to have got lost and prove to be a little underwhelming. Oh So seems to glide along with no particular sense of direction, along with the likes of the track High. Despite this, one of our favorite tracks on the album has to be their latest single offering, Who Deprived You Of Your Smile. The track stays true to the feel of the album, whilst having definite hints of The Doors swirling around. That could partly be down to the eerie tones of an organ that can be heard floating through the airwaves at numerous points on the album.

Caviare Days is set for release on the 8th of October and is well worth a listen.
