Fictionists EP Free Spirit Review

Fictionists EP Free Spirit Review

We like music videos. I mean, we like music videos A LOT.

Sometimes what elevates a song from being a decent yet somewhat generic track, to a memorable pop triumph, can all be put down to the power of a music video. I mean, no disrespect to the likes of OK GO – a band producing decent but somewhat generic pop *runs and hides in cupboard to avoid approaching mob* – but those boys have nailed the art form to exponentially boost the success of their so-so tracks.

So when we discover an ear-pleasing indie-pop offering like “Free Spirit“, with a top-notch music video to boot, it’s safe to say you’ve got our attention for at least 3 minutes. Creating a tongue-in-cheek narrative depicting the fickle side of the film industry, US poppers Fictionist (drugs are bad kinds – I’m trying to be edgy and talk about the genre), are a Salt Lake City-based band with a bright future ahead of them.

Sure, it might not be everyones cuppa, with hum-along, up-tempo choruses that verge on the sweet side. That, however, doesn’t really matter all that much when you’ve got a sample of care-free summer listening handed to you on a plate.
