Blair Dunlop live at London's Lexington review

Blair Dunlop + Jack Carty + Kitty Macfarlane @ The Lexington. 25 April 2016

What best than a cold spring evening in London to witness a tender session of sugary new folk. Monday evening saw Blair Dunlop, Jack Carty and Kitty Macfarlane descend on North London’s Lexington, for a night of decidedly soul-warming music. With voices that exquisitely merged folk and pop in its various forms, the influence of musical heavyweights like Van Morrison and Jeff Buckley, through to the contemporary sounds of Paolo Nutini and Ed Sheeran rang all too clear.

Both Kitty Macfarlane and Jack Carty stepped up to the plate, producing thoroughly entertaining performances that set a pretty high bar for the evening’s headliner. And as 9pm approached, the audiences eagerness for more musical nourishment was palpable.

Taking to the stage, Dunlop shone. Between songs and humorous moments (not to mention a few misplaced words), his 70 minute set was peppered with mellow acoustics and plenty of laughter. Joining forces with Carty for the final song of the evening, the pair set the room ablaze with their pop tinged duet. Blair Dunlop it appears, is climbing his way to the mainstream with his very British brand of pop tinged folk.

His new album Gilded, is set for release on the 6th of May.

For Fans Of: Van Morrison, Jeff Buckley + Paulo Nutini
