“Please vote to stay in the EU or I’ll have to find new bandmates,” remarks frontman Tom Hill from the stage of Camden’s Fiddler’s Elbow. And hell, it’s as good a reason as any.
For those not yet acquainted with the London-based blues rockers, Zoo is formed of Tom Hill (guitar/vocals), Arturs Reirs (drums) and Kelpie McKenzie (bass), a trio that have wracked up quite the CV between them.
Opening their set with the foot pounding “Burning Up“, into the equally catchy “Addicted To Your Pleasure“, this was a hard and fast dose of grit filled rock’n’roll. With McKenzie stage left – a man shredding the bass so hard it looked as though he was about to have a coronary at any moment – these chaps made entertaining a crowd look like an effortless feat. With impeccably nailed timings and a set list tinged with Americana, this was a giant helping of music induced nostalgia.
A brilliant display of grassroots rock’n’roll at its finest, ZOO are definitely a band to catch given half a chance.
