When we heard the legends that are Electric Six were set to tour the UK (remember this high voltage number? Or maybe this trip to an unassuming homosexual drinking establishment?), it’s safe to say we came over all excited.
Aside from a good ‘ol dose of nostalgia and the fact they’ve served up a staggering ELEVEN albums since their formation, we were also rather intrigued as to the sort of support act a weird and wonderful band like Electric Six would drag along for the ride. We were half expecting a cross-dressing, fire-eating, erotic extravaganza based on the band’s history, but needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered the boys from We-Are-Z.
Hailing from near and far, We-Are-Z are a French-Anglo indie pop fusion who have arrived to blissfully melt your eardrums. Delve into their Soundcloud and you’ll discover the dreamy sounds of “Easy“, a catchy little track worthy of your undivided attention for a whole 4 minutes 47 seconds. Dig a little further and you might even discover a rather impressive tidbit in the form of “Airbrush“, a track that carries the same charm but with an altogether rockier outfit.
Conjuring a sonic hybrid reminiscent of Summerheart meets Devo meets Empire Of The Sun, these boys are whisking us away on an easy-breezy ride. Their current single “Goldigaz” is a little less hit and a little more miss if we’re honest – combining bouncy beats with a “la-la-la-la-la” intro – perfect for a drunken sing-along. That being said, judging from the rest of their musical offerings, we’re intrigued to hear what their debut album, Z Is Not X, has to bring to the table.
