Arctic Monkeys – AM.
This is the fifth studio album from the Brit rockers and one that everyone here at The One Stop Record Shop are extremely excited about. James Ford was the producer on this album (Simian Mobile Disco) and as a result tried hooking the band up with HAIM for a collaboration (James also being the producer on HAIM‘s album that is out at the end of the month) with whom he was also producing an album. Controversially the trio of sisters had to turn down the offer, but only because they were hard at work on their own material. After airing their new track ‘Arabella’ live in Europe, the signs are looking good for what’s to come on the album.

‘It’s like a chemical reaction… If you get the wrong amount of the element, smoke comes out of the test tube. There was a lot of demoing and dead ends.’ – Alex Turner

It has a definite tinge of Black Sabbath and hints of dark rock n’ roll. I guess that’s what isolated writing in the Joshua Tree dessert does to you. The band are said to have embraced everything from Dr Dre and Outcast, sludgey rock, all the way through to 70s tunes
