Its been 6 long years since the forming of Panic! at the disco and 3 since the release of their last album ‘Pretty.Odd’ and there have been some changes along the way; the removal then return of that fated ‘!’, a second album that seemed rather lackluster and ended up sounding somewhat like a ‘Beatles’ tribute album and finally the departure of bass player Jon Walker and songwriter/guitarist Ryan Ross. Despite all this change Brendon Urie has kicked the apostrophe back in and tried to add that once famous, some may call ’emo’ burlesque magic back into their music.

He has been somewhat successful.

The New Panic! album has been 2 years in the making and is entitled ‘Vices and Virtues’. The first single to appear off the album is called ‘The Ballad of Mona Lisa’ and draws from their first album ‘I write sins…’ mixed with a bit of polished pop. There’s a much more ‘mature’ sound to this album so far (i hate to use that cliche) but it’s true, its almost as if ‘Pretty.Odd’ never happened and was merely a bump in the road.

Many said it was all downhill for the band after the departure of Walker and Ross, but with the new addition of touring musicians Ian Crawford (formally of The Cab’ and the remaining Smith and Urie the band are surging on ahead…

…unlike Ross and Walkers love child of a band named ‘The Young Veins’ which sounds like a beatles tribute act caught in headlights, and Walker announced after the release of their first album that the band was on a ‘permanent hiatus’. things were obviously going well for them…

Anyway, tell me what you think, Here is the single ‘The Ballad of Mona Lisa’
