Arliston

If you’re after a wistful musical offering dripping with melancholy, look no further than today’s premiere direct from Arliston.

The band that first began writing in a windowless basement have come a long way with fresh cut Language of Strangers”– a track we’re excited to premiere. Referring to the moment you’re reunited with an ex post-breakup, the lack of intimacy and the feeling of disconnect captures this track in one fell swoop.

Reverberating with delightfully serene (yet somewhat sombre) undertones, the cut pairs brooding vocals with reflective lyrics and arrives piping hot following the success of debut single “Enough”. It’s a melancholy boiling pot, one reminiscent of Editors meets The National with a dash of something more contemporary thrown in for good measure.

Consisting of George Hasbury on keys, guitar, bass, backing vocals, pots, pans and kitchen sink (OK, those last few were an exaggeration, but you get the gist) , Jordi Bosch on drums, synth and backing vocals and Jack Ratcliffe on guitar and lead vocals, this stellar trio are onto something good.

“Made over a bed of synths and a continuous single take of a creaky upright piano, Language of Strangers is a recognition of a common cycle,” notes Jack. “From intimacy, to post-break up estrangement. What was a relationship with shorthands, in-jokes, a whole culture of language specific to those two people, is returned to a state of absolute formality.”

Check out the track below and be sure to catch them on 16th August at 93 Feet East or at the Camden Assembly on 12th September.
