Pop music comes in all shapes and sizes. From the blindingly effervescent to the deliciously sinister, it’s a genre the UK (and the wider world) simply can’t get enough of.

The latest newcomer cutting her teeth amongst the UK’s pop elite, Heather Jayne has unleashed a decidedly dark offering in the form of fresh cut “Better Than This”. First stealing the spotlight with the guidance of mentors Boy George and Paloma Faith on BBC talent show ‘The Voice’, it seems the only way is up for the singer.

Blending bold synths, muted tropical undertones and hooks that’ll have you humming along for days, the track is a winner from the off. The comparisons to hook filled hits like Echosmith’s “Cool Kids” are undeniable, but what this 19 year-old brings to the table bubbles with bolder, electronic elements.

“The song tells the story of the moment when you realise that you are giving more than you are getting back from someone,” states Jayne. “You are tired of them treating you badly and under-appreciating you – its all about believing in your self worth and not letting people use and take advantage of you.”

Catch the track below for yourself and be sure to pop it on your playlist from March 23rd.
