The day in which all manner of musical madness descends upon London’s O2 arena and the red carpet is rolled out for international music royalty has arrived. The BRIT Awards – the modest and less ego-massaging cousin of it’s American counterpart The Grammy’s, is an awards show that never fails to create drunken controversy and awkward moments a plenty. Designed by Tracey Emin, this years award boasts a romantic feel, with pastel colours, calligraphic handwriting and too many ribbons, although we must admit, it seems… a little flimsy. It reminds us of a child that has stuck a pink fuzzy rosette for ‘Best Cut and Stick’ onto their mums favourite statue. So who’s ego’s will get out of hand tonight? Which pop star will have an awkward encounter with their ex? And which self-proclaimed ‘rock star’ will have a rebellious moment and slate the entire music industry in one long drunken rant while dressed as a farmer, before being dragged off stage by his best mate? I guess we will have to watch and find out, however, a revelation late last night is certainly going to mix things up.
The one and only egocentric master, Kanye West, last night became a latest addition to the 2015 awards lineup. Even for the BRIT Awards, this was a rather last minute addition. Information that is currently emerging suggests that he is filling in for a last minute no-show in the form of Rihanna, who purportedly never showed up for dress rehearsals yesterday. He is certain to bring the wow factor to the show and as rumor has it, he might team up with a few other big names during his set. Is this an attempt to draw in more viewers? Add a little controversy? Well I guess we will have to find out, but I suspect that there will be surprise performance from another high profile artist that we haven’t been told about, or so rumor has it.
