It’s time to take things down a notch in the midst of the Christmas chaos.
Today’s Track Of The Day is as much a story of tragedy as it is triumph. The tale of two friends — Victor Solf and Simon Carpentier – the duo that make up HER.
Fresh cut “We Choose” is as emotive as they come, bending smokey vocals, winding instrumentals and a heartfelt narrative to create this intriguing soundscape.
“The last year was very hard, because Simon wasn’t doing well,” admits Victor. “It was tough for him to tour, but he felt like it was important to tour at the same time. He didn’t want to stop.”
It was in August of this year, unbeknownst to anyone but those closest to him, that Simon lost a long, quiet, and arduous battle with cancer. The track before us stands as testament to that ardent fight and unrelenting spirit.
“Weirdly, it was the first song that we did as HER,” says Victor. “We actually wrote the track when our previous band had ended. It was a statement about keeping hope and holding on to what you love. Even when things are going badly, there’s always hope. It’s the intro to this next chapter—how hopefully he would’ve wanted it.”
