Pairing raw and distorted vocals with soothing piano lines, today’s fresh offering is a bit of a boundary spanner.
Stonerpop AKA electronic/synthpop duo Jimmie Maneuva and Maudie Michelle are producing dark resonating pop with all the trimmings. Latest cut “Fox” is a harrowingly infectious offering. Cries of “We built our house on broken hearts / call it the youth leading the youth” harbour a shadowy undercurrent, charged with divisive lyrics reminiscent of distorted bigwigs Flobots.
Hailing from Louisiana, the pair’s self-titled debut was unleashed on the world back in November, culminating in a sound as diverse as the culture they represent. Poignant, thought-provoking lyrics, quirky synth melodies and haunting backing vocals come together to create this interesting and fresh sound.
