Tennis

Ripped straight from their pending album, We Can Die Happy, dream team Tennis have served up a gem with latest track “I Miss That Feeling”.

Marital duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley have rejuvenated the studio soft pop of the 70s. Marinating “I Miss That Feeling” with quirky keys, the track boasts magnetic electric guitar riffs, mellow baseline percussion and Moore’s Blondie-esque vocal lines. It’s a voice like honey to be sure, with Moore becoming particularly hypnotic towards the song’s climax. Ringing in our ears like a deity, it’s no surprise that prior to Tennis, she was holding her own in a church choir. The song in itself is as confessional as they come.

Drawn from personal experience, “I Miss That Feeling” is a narrative of anxiety – despite its ironic major chords and softened tone, the lyrical virtuosity narrates imbalance; “Every little thing starts trembling”. Moore turned the album into “a love letter to my constant companion rather than a denunciation of it,” a genuine reminder of the camaraderie that feeds the magical  authentic of Tennis.

The track’s cover art looks like something out of a boho film camera – no wonder they don’t have a website, these two are stuck in a beautiful time warp. And with a summer spent supporting luminaries The Shins, Spoon and Father John Misty, and having aced Coachella, we can’t wait to see what Tennis brings this winter in their largest North American tour yet.
