The Tambo Rays

Injecting a healthy dose of indie-pop into your Wednesday, Oakland-based outfit The Tambo Rays have the perfect offering to brighten up this dreary hump day.

Always Down” merges vibrant and electric chord progressions with sharp, reverb-laden vocals.Think the US equivalent of emerging indie acts like Fickle Friends and the infectiously hooky Royal Teeth – but in their unsolicited infancy. It’s an intriguing mix that, despite its raw nature, is a sound that’s heading in a promising direction.

The project has been on again off again since its inception in 2012 by founder Brian DaMert (guitar, vocals) who soon found an immediately furthered kinship with his sister, Sara (lead vocals). Joined by Greg Sellin (bass/ backing vocals) and Bob Jakubs (drums), The Tambo Rays were born.

“The past two years have been a healing process,” shares band member Brian. “Writing music was a form of therapy during these turbulent times, what came out of it was this EP.”

We often take it for granted, but despite being a UK staple, top-notch indie is a rarer breed amongst our US counterparts, thus it’s encouraging to hear less squeaky clean offerings emerging from the American heartlands
