If you haven’t discovered Don Broco by now, then it’s about time someone questioned which rock you’ve been hiding under of late.

Nerve” is the latest release off the bands UK top 20 album, Automatic, bringing forth a sound that holds its own in an already overcrowded pop-rock market. The progression from 2012’s debut release is clear to see, with the band’s heavier sound having been melted down and combined with streaks of 80s romanticised art-pop. It may be a bid to latch on to the Swim Deep / 1975 audience, but that’s no bad thing when the product is capable of sounding this good.

Catchier than a bout of the winter flu, “Nerve” is an unadulterated exhibition of the band’s pop-rock prowess, with shredding guitar elements that flow seamlessly into exuberant synth-heavy choruses. It may not be material to tug at your heartstrings (we’ll leave that to Adele) or a case of soul bearing at its finest, but what these boys have done is create shameless, audio pleasure that’s undeniably entertaining.

You can catch the boys on their upcoming UK Tour this December, alongside kick-ass support act Symmetry (who popped into the One Stop studio for an impromptu interrogation earlier this week).
