And I mean it in every sense of the word! WHO in their right mind releases an electro r’n’b track when they’ve previously been known as the baby of grunge? It is something that can only be done by a true artist, someone who’s not affected or limited by genres, since music is about the freedom of expression, isn’t it?
When I heard the new single by DJ (see? even his initials are musical) called “Aerial Love”, I was instantly drawn into the sensational choice of minimalistic (yet super creative and detailed) arrangement, combined with top-notch sonic production. People, forget Jamie Lidell – Daniel Johns is a true genius of our generation. I genuinely believe that if he was either American or British, he’d be far more appreciated than he’s been so far…
Well, between you and me, I predict (and hope) that Daniel Johns and Kimbra Johnson will soon get together, become the true number one musical power-couple in the world and bless us with more fantastic, visionary tracks. To us, “Aerial Love” can only be explained as Daniel Johns speaking directly to Kimbra, who else?!
I’ve had a look at people’s comments regarding the new track, and many of his old fans have not welcomed the single with open arms… But think about it… We’re talking about the same guy who did “Suicidal Dream“, “Across The Night“, “If You Keep Losing Sleep“, oh and let’s not forget about “Tuna In The Brine” and “Horror With Eyeballs”! Ok, I’ll add one more, Kimbra’s ” Miracle“. I mean, technically, this guy could easily be releasing crap left and right, but instead he releases a unique, unusual, fresh and experimental single after years of silence… How brave is that, huh? If I could, I’d like to be a fly on the wall when this guy is in action and coming up with new tunes… It must be something else!
Ok, to make the long story short, Daniel Johns is a true genius with timeless music, melodies, harmonies and lyrics coming out of his ears! Let’s all just LISTEN, shall we?
