Discopunk release debut Antonio America

Diskopunk – a word that conjures images of Mark Ronson shimmying all over the Sex Pistols back catalog.

Unfortunately that scenario never actually happened (to the best of our knowledge), but what it does encapsulate is a band you’re sure to be hearing big things from in 2016, alongside a hybrid genre that fulfills that very description.

A distorted haze of pop-tinged dirty disco combines with the essence of scuzzy post-punk to create their storming debut, “Antonio America”. The track charts the transformation of their vocalist into his on-stage alter ego ‘Antonio’, a character who embodies the brashness this track exudes. Its driving bassline and drum beat are accompanied by electronic undertones, a combination that initially leaves you bamboozled as to whether you’re about to hear a Led Zeppelin classic or a Scandi electronic-disco (Robyn circa 2010) sensation.

Instead, Discopunk – made up of Antonio America himeself, Joakim Rydén, Harald Forsmark, William Collins and Henrik Ulvenäs – lead you down a path where Graffiti 6 and Two Door Cinema Club combine. It’s all good fun, in a carefree world where cowbells reverberate over witty lyrics (“I wear my fuck-ups like a diamond ring”). Nothing could possibly bring you down.
