Montagues and Capulets Aileen

Montagues and Capulets Aileen

If you’re reading this in the hope my dyslexia got the better of me and this is in fact an indie-rejigging of the Dexters Midnight Runners classic, then I’m sorry, you’re about to be sorely disappointed.

If, however, you’re looking for a Norwich based indie alt-pop quartet who bring forth a blend of raw guitars and radiantly catchy melodies, then you’ve come to the right place. Having already performed at BBC Radio 1’s Academy in Norwich, alongside bagging themselves a slot at one of our favourite festivals (Latitude), mark our words, Montagues & Capulets are a band on the rise.

A fine example of naughties inspired indie in all its gritty glory, this is a band that combines modern day pop hooks with old-school rock’n’roll charm. In part, it’s where their potential weak spot lies, with riffs you’ve heard before but can’t quite figure out where from. It’s a path that’s been well trodden by the likes of The Clash and The Strokes, but what these boys bring to the table is a unique charm that radiates from each and every chorus.

The contagion of their debut effort “Aileen” is a prime example of this, a track that will see you infected by its toe tapping choruses in next to no time. Let’s put it this way, if The Kooks were to cross-breed with The Maccabees, this track would be the calling card of their illegitimate lovechild.
