To Foo or not to Foo, that was the question.
With the news Foo Fighters were to make an “official band announcement” late last night, word was rife that something concerning was on the horizon.
Most fans saw three possible outcomes. Firstly, that Dave Grohl and his band of merry musical men were no more. The Foo Fighters were disbanding and that was that. Hawkins and Grohl were allegedly feuding and Grohl was on a mission to pursue solo endeavours.
Those falling into the second category were throwing the infamous ‘H’ word about left, right and centre, certain that a hiatus was the only possible news worthy of such an announcement. The third (and slightly more optimistic outcome) was that the Foos were releasing new material or yet another world tour – the least likely of the three options, considering Hawkins had previously stated there were no plans in the pipeline for 2016.
So, as the clock struck midnight (or there abouts depending on your current location) the video below appeared online.
In true Foo Fighters style, they pummelled all speculation surrounding the bands future in one hilariously sarcastic video. Throwing shade at media reports of a split, the opening shot sees Grohl contemplating a solo career in the midst of all the media hype. Attempting to become “hip” and “do what the kids do these day” Grohl sets out on a mission to make music solo with laptops and synths. Shots of his apparent ever-expanding ego are interlaced with the band talking about how Grohl has “Gone all Hollywood”, addressing media reports head on, “first he does the Grammy thing, and then he goes on the Oscars without us!”
It’s witty, it’s hilarious and in true Foo Fighters style, the band throw up a casual middle finger to the press. Check the full video out below:
