Royal Teeth | Kids Conspire

Royal Teeth | Kids Conspire

Opening with the subdued crackle of a record player, “Kids Conspire” is a track attempting to drag you, limbs flailing, in countless musical directions.

The latest effort from Louisiana’s Royal Teeth, this is a five-piece producing foot-tapping pop with a quaintly alternative edge. From the acoustic tones of a single guitar, to the silky wisp of Nora’s vocals, “Kids Conspire” is a track that intrigues from its opening line.

Initial comparisons are directed towards the likes of VersaEmerge and Paramore’s mellower tracks, with hopeful calls of “Little boy you’ve got to be the Superman / Our future’s in your hands” laced with a smoky 20s edge. Before too long, we’re thrust headfirst into a frenzy of a chorus (think MGMT crossbred with Hayley Williams and a smattering of heavy synths). The track’s driving drum beat leads us storming into a brilliantly hook-filled bridge – yet another change of direction for this already unpredictable single.

It’s a track that keeps us on our toes, continually guessing yet never bored of the suspense. At times it does feel somewhat confused and unsure as to which direction to head, but it’s a sound that always manages to find its way back to the sweet, exuberant spot where it began. Royal Teeth are certainly a band to look out for in the coming months. You can check them out on Facebook here.
