TRACKS OF THE WEEK casette

No week is complete without the perfect soundtrack to accompany it – and that’s precisely where we come in on #NewMusicFriday. Discover the hottest offerings pumping through our speakers and where to find them on the inter-web!

A singer-songwriter niftily crafting dulcet pop hooks, Jack Shields is starting off proceedings with “Emma“. Conjuring up images of road trips, lost loves, and if the lyrics are listened to closely enough, drug abuse, “Emma” sets the vibe for an epic summer journey. SAILE follows close behind with what can only be described as a steadily building love-doused war song. “Dreaming Of” twins soaring melodies with dancing guitar lines that leave you wanting more.

Said The Whale conduct a full on assault on our speakers, as “Nothing Makes Me Happy” does, in fact, do the complete opposite. Making our insides bubble over with happiness, this surging, indie-synth number will keep you clicking repeat all afternoon.”We were thinking about friends of ours who complain about their lives even though from an outsider’s perspective they’ve got everything” notes the band.  Candid songwriter Adam Jensen steps up to the plate  this month with latest offering “You Don’t Love Me Like Before”, alongside the dulcet tones of Steve Benjamins who follows up breakout single, “Silence”, with the folk-inspired sounds of “Purification Ritual”.

CREO serve up a euphoric indie-pop cut in the form of “Subtitles For X, Y, Z”. Festival ready choruses resonate as the grit infused vocals of this Aussie bunch surge through your speakers. Rome Is Not A Town join the party, blending raspy toplines with frenzied guitar riffs. The Gothenburg-based band have unleashed “I’m In A Band” and boy is it worth a listen – unleash your inner rebel. Turning this down a notch, the dulcet tones of Dresage have arrived. A lo-fi glitchy offering that is far more relaxing than my description suggests, her soothing tones must be heard. Lest we not for get OSRS regular Vian Izak and the goosebump inducing sounds of “Till Your Heart Is Still”.

Noah de Leon brings forth an exquisitely subdued and reflective pop cut with “Better Days”. It’s a downtempo offering that changes course midway through – so be sure to keep an ear out. South Wales raised George Glew is following suit with the broken tones of “Me And My Brother”. Drizzled with soul and enough gravel to pave your front drive, it’s a glorious cut reminiscent of tracks from those Into The Ark boys. Rounding things off, NYC duo Me Not You unleash “Julia“, a feral, punk-infused pop offering to get your angst on to. Go on, with soaring choruses like these, you can’t but sing “Julliiaaaaa” at the top of your lungs for the next few days. Infectious doesn’t quite cut it.
