Stone Irr

Sleep. Eat. Rave. Repeat. Four things we like to think this blog does better than anyone else. Singing, however, is an entirely different matter.

You see, vocal harmonics have never really been our forté (there was this traumatic incident involving a pigeon, a singing teacher and a… never mind, another time). Needless to say, although One Stop may not be gifted in the vocals department, that’s not to say another musical soul – Stone Irr for example – might not be far better suited to the task of entertaining with the old Hobson’s Choice (US: to clarify, that’s cockney slang for voice).

The lead single taken from his debut album Sinner (released 28 July), “What I Do Best” is a harmonised feast for the ears. Evoking a sound reminiscent of an early Beach Boys demo with a DIY twist, Stone Irr’s latest creation borders on the melancholic with its intriguing arrangements.

“I was in the beginnings of a serious, long distance relationship when I wrote “What I Do Best”,” he notes. “Although we lived only a few hours apart, I experienced a surreal episode of separation anxiety. The song mainly addresses those times where your mind wanders and thinks the worst of someone else, no matter how stable things really are.”

Needless to say, the result was a good’n. Check this cut out. Now.
