In yet more new music news, local London lads Lola Cove have only gone and released a cracking new EP by the name of Sons & Daughters.
Lead single “Wait Up For Me” is a sound we’ve previously championed on the site, merging all the hooks and up-tempo melodies you’d expect from these boys with the mellower tones of the EP’s title track. The likes of “I’ve Been Caught” conjure flecks of The Score’s “Oh My Love”, with its catchy AF, drum-heavy introduction and a smattering of indie exuberance. That being said, “Like I Was Young” and title track “Sons & Daughters” position themselves as the weak links, edging into somewhat cheesy, filler-track territory as the latter bids to carve out a mellower sound for the band.
As EP’s go, Sons & Daughters puts up a decent fight. Sure these boys have some work to do, but the musical foundations have been laid for a bright future.
