Matt Wills - Emily

If it’s emotive alt-pop you’re after, look no further than British up-and-comer Matt Wills.

Home from touring with big name acts like Bastille and Singala, gorgeous London lad Wills (not to be confused with the Busted bassist of a similar name) has just unleashed an absolute heart-throbber, “Emily”.

True to its alternative -come-indie description, “Emily” combines smooth keys with the addition of harp-like strings. Steady electro percussion and impassioned vocals resonate throughout, creating a sound reminiscent of a Jack Garatt / Hozier release. As a trio, there’s no debate that all three have their music down, but have we found ourselves siding with a Garrat/Wills curly quiff over Hozier’s shoulder boho waves?  Or could the Christ-like man-bun be making a solstice return in the name of Spring? The jury’s well and truly out.

Having previously collaborated on Wilkinson‘s buoyant “We Will Be”, “Emily” takes an alternative “Summertime Sadness” root, symbiotic of the temperamental British weather. With tear-jerking harmonies that reflect the changing of the seasons, it’s certainly a track not to be missed off your playlist.

Catch Matt Wills live by grabbing tickets to his upcoming London Omera show on May 25th. Get ready, the countdown starts now.
