It’s time to add some zest to your Tuesday courtesy of NONA. It may be the traditional Mediterranean name for grandmother but this sound is anything but old.

It’s at this point we tried to squeeze in a ‘It’s NONA your business’ pun but failed miserably. Hey, what can you do?! The moniker for Los Angeles-based songwriter and muso Michael Goldman, NONA’s sound is smattered with surring synths and up-beat frivolity.

Fresh cut “Girls” is a hive of energy. Intertwining heavy hooks with soaring choruses that’ll have you humming for days, this track is surely a contender for anthem of the summer. The project’s influences are clear to hear. Blending rough ‘n’ ready rock undertones produced by the likes of Tom Petty and combining them with bold pop highlights, the track’s sound is very much an up-to-date Feeder meets Hellogoodbye situation.

Propelled by Goldman “feeling the pressure to create and realise something on [his] own without compromise”, the project is a true labour of love. “This video came together almost serendipitously,” notes Goldman. “This video came together almost serendipitously. Zach had pretty much finished the animation and was seeking a home for it when he reached out to me. Both the song and animation share the same dysfunctional core of love and resentment.”

The only trajectory for this project is up, so be sure to check out the video below and let us know your thoughts!
