Blending talk of politics and revolution, Hill (A.K.A. Nathan Johnston) infuses our speakers with more than a helping of funk. Crafting a sound reminiscent of chart contenders like Shawn Mendez and Charlie Puth, but injected with the soul tapping rhythm of the funk gods, latest cut “Beaches” is a well crafted pop track.
“With the evolution of social media, our attention spans have become shorter than ever.” notes Hill. “Rarely do we do anything without needing to film or document it on our smartphones. Beaches is a call for a revolution of the self; to step away from the online world for a moment and think about what is really important.. concentrate on real relationships and read something that’s longer than a page long article on college times.”
Lifted from the long-awaited debut Elephant, this latest cut breaks from the Motown mood of his previous single to bask in funky summer scenery. Still, it’s not all fun in the sun, with Sion revealing that the riotous choir heard in the background symbolises a revolt against our dependence on technology, capitalism and shameless self-indulgence.
