Sparrows

It’s Friday – which means indie-tinged pop is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Following the release of a host of standout singles in 2016, Aussie songstress Sparrows has returned to entertain your eardrums.  ‘Take My Heart Out’  is an exquisite little track, drawing inspiration from those embarrassingly unhinged moments most of us have experienced whilst in the midst of a relationship *silence*. Right… just me then.

Blending pixie like vocals and delicately layered arrangements to craft a storming summer track. There are definite parallels to be drawn between Sparrows and the likes of indie pop gods Misterwives. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Grimes and Bjork, her self-produced effort combines sampled recordings with a sprinkling of folk, pop and electronica.

“Seeing so many people getting lost in their devices lately, it got me thinking about a time when I lost my identity to a relationship,” Sparrows remarks of the track. I could see myself doing ridiculous and embarrassingly obsessive things but couldn’t stop it, kind of like when you can’t stop your thumb from scrolling, hoping you’re going to land on a pot of gold. As humans, we all have a propensity to get caught up in addictive behaviour – often in an attempt to tame our mindless chatter or fill a void with stuff. Take My Heart Out is about crossing that fine line into addiction.”
