The Lad Classic

The Lad Classic

When it comes to trials and tribulation, The Lad Classic are a band with quite the story to tell.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, this foursome have experienced the highs and lows of the music industry firsthand. Touring the world with the likes of major label signings Big Sugar (Universal) and The Motorleague (Warner), everything was set for an international rock explosion – that was until the advice of a so-called ‘businessman’ threw the band’s entire future into jeopardy.

It’s something we hear time and time again from acts big and small. A seemingly knowledgable business person steps into the ring offering all manner of advice – a sympathiser to the cause if you will. He understands your grievances, your frustrations, and takes control of the business side of things. ‘No need to worry’ they assure you, ‘it’s all in safe hands’. However, in the cold light of day, things can turn out entirely differently. As with The Lad Classic, this loss of control meant that key decisions were taken out of their hands. Money was spent without their consent, rifts began to form and the band’s future looked altogether uncertain.

It was during this time “Are You With Me” was written. Taken from the band’s fourth album, Rectifier, the track is a hard-hitting reminder of the blows they endured. Produced and Engineered by Damon de Szegheo (Barenaked Ladies), it’s a heavy, relentless and surging track that represents their desire to push forward regardless of the difficulties. Blending heavy basslines and slick guitar licks, this is a track for those who enjoy rock with a heavier edge.
