Now, most of us have experienced that magical moment after dark when the city (in our case London) becomes a magical twinkling mass. Yup, that’s the setting for the fresh new track from US-based band The National Parks.
As I say this, thousands of Green Peace protesters are lighting flaming torches, sobbing into their bio-degradable hankies, and chances are, I’ll receive scrawled death threats for promoting energy wastage and light pollution. Anyhow, got a bit sidetracked there, back to the matter at hand.
Blending piano lines reminiscent of Andrew McMahon / Jack’s Mannequin crossed with Noah and the Whale, new cut “Lights In The City” is a tinkering and hopeful offering. There are distinct folk-filled undertones to the fresh release, bringing forth an electric and almost euphoric sense of elation.
“I wrote Lights in the City soon after I’d graduated and moved from a college town to a bigger city.” notes founding member, Brady Parks. “I had just gotten out of a serious relationship and seemed to be on the cusp of a new one. So it was definitely a time of transition for me but that whirlwind feeling wasn’t all negative, most of it was actually really exciting. And the energy of the city kind of came to embody that for me: all the messy chaos and beauty of a really important but uncertain time in my life.”
