Sometimes it’s the small things that grab your attention; a wonky floor tile, a misspelled word or in this case, a funk filled guitar riff that makes you sit up and listen.

No, I didn’t just compare indie pop-rockers Episode‘s brand spanking new track “Swim” to your grandma’s kitchen floor – well, not intentionally anyway. Equating the concept of drowning (a true story involving band member Daniel Lonner’s near-death experience as a child) to the helpless experience of falling in love, this track should sit top of your carefree ‘tell-the-summer-to-hurry-the-fuck-up’ playlist.

It would be mad not to draw parallels between “Swim” and the funked up, two fingers to the haters breeziness produced by the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden. But despite the old-school sound these New York dwellers emit, there’s been a fresh ingredient thrown into this tub of nostalgia – damn catchy pop hooks.

They may look like one big dysfunctional family, but who really cares when they resonate carefree sounds like this.
