We officially like Summer. It’s sunny (no shit Sherlock), people get half naked left, right and centre (not always a positive) and it’s a great excuse to crack out an overpriced Mr Whippy – what’s not to love?! Needless to say, when an artist comes along with a name containing a word that invokes such extreme levels of happiness, it’s a sure bet One Stop Record Shop will want a slice of the action. So, on a surprisingly sunny morning in London town, we sat down for an e-beer with the one and only Summer Heart

Hi there Summer Heart, thanks for taking the time to speak with us! How’s life treating you?

I’m ok thanks. I’ve been ill for a couple of days – the SXSW flu you know. Other than that, all is cool in my world.

The infamous SXSW flu, it’s certainly got the better of us before! So for anyone who hasn’t heard about Summer Heart, could you tell us a little about yourself and your musical sound?

Summer Heart is me [David] on recordings, and live it’s me plus a couple of friends. I guess the sound is kinda along the lines of dreamy lo-fi indie pop… or something like that.

Now that’s a great combination, we love us some lo-fi in the summer months. Could you tell us a little about your musical inspirations?

That’s such a hard one. Right now I am really into John Maus, so for the time being I’ll have to say him.

We know you grew up in Sweden; did this influence your sound at all? If so, in what way?

Hah! I’m not sure to be honest, maybe it inspired me to write music to get me out of Sweden?! [laughs] But it’s always nice to get back home to Sweden after long tours. The air is so fresh and so clean back home.

So far in your musical career, what’s been the most significant moment? (except for escaping your home country)

Oh, definitely touring the US, that was a big thing! But I’m not sure if I can point out one exact moment that’s been the most significant to be honest…

Could you explain a little to our readers about your new single ‘The Forbidden’? What were the inspirations behind it?

Well, it was written over a week in December in a flat in south London. I borrowed an old synth from my friend Dan that I took back to my flat. I started playing around with it. I found some really cool sounds on it and started to build from there. I added layers of guitars and more synths and lastly I sat down with the lyrics. It is inspired by the life in south London, the pros and cons of it, and also the feeling that the grass is always greener on the other side thing, you know.

We at One Stop Record Shop have one last question we’d like to ask you; if you could headline at any festival in the world, which one would it be and why?

Probably Roskilde Festival in Denmark, ’cause it’s a festival I’ve grown up going to. And yeah, it would definitely be amazing to headline it!
