Lola Cove with their new single "Watched You Grow"

Hailing from the deep dark depths of South London, Lola Cove are doing a stellar job of flying the flag for all things pop, rock and indie.

Comprised of frontman Luke Richmond (piano, voice ‘n’ lungs), Ollie Richmond (vocals, guitar), Jonny Swales (bass), Owen Crane (vocals, guitar) and Rob Cousins (drums), the band have begun making waves with a punchy sound that’s filled with attitude, power and hooks big enough to send your repeat button into meltdown. If ever you needed proof, their latest track “Watched You Grow” will provide it by the bucket load.

From the off, the track’s gritty vocals and driving piano elements form a sound comparable to a classic Snow Patrol record. With the help of an unrelenting beat and hefty amount of reverb, the verse slowly builds into cries of “These walls will fall”, throwing you headfirst into a sonically powerful experience reminiscent of Embrace on steroids.

The chorus that follows can only be described as a soaring musical triumph. Euphoric cries of “You’re all I see / In this crowded mind where I / Believe that you and I could be” combine with skillful guitar hooks, in what proves to be a goosebump inducing formula. Who needs drugs when you’re confronted with a chorus like that, eh?

Despite an intro that at times lacks certainty and confidence, the momentum is quick to build. “Watched You Grow” is a track that’s set to plant these boys firmly in the spotlight. We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground where this five-piece are concerned.
